As Christians, it is important to always grow in our relationship with God.
Growing in our relationship with God helps us know God better, and live a life that is pleasing unto Him.
Once you have accepted Jesus Christ into your life as your Lord and Saviour, one of the things you get is; having a personal relationship with God. This is because one of the many benefits made available to us through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross and His resurrection is the restoration of our relationship with God, among other benefits like having all our sins forgiven, making us a new creature, and so many more blessings.
We lost our relationship with God because Adam and Eve sinned against God in the Garden of Eden. And so, we became sinners through the sin of Adam and Eve. However, because God loves us so much, He sent His Son Jesus Christ to come into the world to die for our sins.
John 3:16 (KJV) states, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 6:23 (KJV) says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
And so, God sent His Son to die for us. For those who receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, they are made righteous. Also, we get a restoration of our relationship with God, as well as eternal life with God and forgiveness of our sins forever.
We shouldn’t only grow physically or mentally, but also spiritually. We need to always be in a very good relationship with God.
God loves us so much and we can see this in so many places in the Bible.
Romans 5:8 (KJV), says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins and through dying for our sins, Jesus has also helped us have a direct access to God. Jesus Christ has helped to restore our relationship with God that humans lost due to Adam and Eve’s sin in the garden of Eden.
By accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you can now have a personal relationship with God.
John 1:10-13 (KJV) says, “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
Jesus Christ said in Revelations 3:20 (KJV), “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Growing our relationship with God involves doing several things, some of them are:
- Setting out time every day to read the Word of God: we need to set out time every day to study the Bible and hearing from God. When we study the Bible, we get to know more about God
- Setting out time every day to pray: prayer is very important and we need to always communicate with God.
- Always worship God: always worship God at all times; even while you are doing your household chores, while you are going to work always worship God. And worshipping God should always be done in spirit and in truth. Also, go to church, go for house fellowships, and so on.
- Always be eager to be in the Presence of God: go to fellowships, have personal devotions, and spend quality time with God.
If you want to accept Jesus Christ into your life, please pray this prayer:
“Father Lord, thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die for my sins. O Lord, please forgive me of all of my sins, I accept Jesus into my life as my Lord and as my Saviour. Thank You Lord for answering my prayer”
If you prayed that prayer, you are now a member of God’s family, welcome to God’s family! You are now a new creature.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
Begin to grow in your relationship with God; start reading God’s Word, start attending a Gospel-centred church, start praying without ceasing, and start living a life that is pleasing unto God.
God bless you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
